It has only been a month. Not much going on in my life. Hoping an engine shows up in the country for my RX-7. I went to look at an apartment that I may move into, but the previous renter changed the locks, so it will be a bit before I can get another chance to see it. But most important, I registered a new domain name for my Alpha, inertgasdesign.com, so no more of that ftl stuff. |

More of the same. Stargate SG-1 is back on track, good story. I like the change up, a race asking Earth for weapons, and us denying just like we alway get denied. Another freaky episode of Farscape, Ben Browden directs the strangest episodes, and I like them. Looking forward to the weekend. |

Wow, where have I been? I'm getting as bad as my friend, Tiggar. Actually I think I'm worse now, over 20 days without an update. Mostly I haven't had anything to say. Just more of the same. Only average movies, okay Adult Swims, good episodes of Stargate SG-1, and no new CDs. Most of that has changed in the last week. I saw Amelie and Mulholland Drive. Adult Swim has just been okay. One episode of Baby Blues, hit home with my questioning the of the whole guy/girl thing. Why do girls always end up with the "bad" guys that hurt them, and then come crying to their "good" friends (who actually have feelings for them) after it happens? All episodes of Stargate are good, so I only feel the need to mention the exceptions. I just got 4 new CDs too. Amelie, what can I say? Watch it, love it, buy the DVD to treasure forever. Just an amazing film. I can't put into words. I thought City of Lost Children was great. It is pale to Amelie. Did I mention, it is a good film? Mulholland Drive, I love all the work of David Lynch. I may not understand everything, but it is just a joy to feel my mind twist into knots as I try to follow and logicly analyze the plot. I'll never speak what I think things mean in a Lynch film, I don't think it is right to try to find symbolism that may or may not be. Only David really knows what he ment. I'm just here to enjoy. The Stargate episode with the return of Danile Jackson, was, well, underwhelming. I know I was probally just expecting too much. But the episode really felt forced. Like they were just trying to find a reason for him to be there. I hope he makes more appearences, but in the future, try to write a plot where he is a key part. I guess I'm asking too much, they couldn't do that during the later seasons where he actually was a supposed to be a key part. CDs yay! Daft Punk: Discovery, kicks so much ass, need to make more vidoes, and then release the whole story on DVD. Eiffel 65 (yes the Da Ba Dee people): Europop, I don't know how I missed this one. I loved Blue when it was popular, but am just now getting the CD. This one kicks my ass, every song is perfect. DirtyVegas, you know the Mitsubishi (or is that Mitsubachi?) commercial with the flat cap wearing, body popping, chick in the passenger seat? A good CD. No songs equal the power of Days Go By (except maybe the hidden track, which happens to be Days Go By, but accustic), but don't get me wrong, still very listenable. Last, Aphex Twin: Richard D. James Album. What rubbish. Don't get me wrong, I love IDM, but the early works of Aphex Twin, just don't live up to my standards after hearing the more recent stuff. I'll keep it, but that is because I keep all my CDs (the only ones I've parted with, were stolen, or sold by my brother). |

Not much happening. Still haven't finished the script for this page, and I've broken my news page in the mean time by tuning the CSS for here, thus de-tuning the other page that has the same layout, but different classes. Oh, my webdesign page is back up, at a slightly different address: ftl.clubneon.com. This should be pretty perminate, it is now coloed at my work, so I've got plenty of power, bandwidth, and cold air, all the things a computer can desire. I've been messing around with the Freenet Project a little bit. Basicly it is a totally anonymous layer on top of the Internet. It allows people in less-than-free countries (that includes the US) to distribute and receive files without anyone knowing who published the file, or who is looking at it. Rather powerful idea. So in the true form of the Internet, this data store is filled with pr0n and MP3s. Oh well. I would like to run a more perminate Freenet node on my Alpha, but Freenet is compiled to Java bytecode, and I'm having a bit of trouble getting a Java Virtual Machine for my Alpha. Compaq ported one, but only released it as an RPM. I'm not running an RPM based distro. I would use Alien to convert the file, but you need the RPM tools installed, which need all sorts of other things. I've also considered building the JVM from source, but for some odd reason you need a already running install of the Java Developer's Kit to build the JDK. That just doesn't make sense. I'll close with, "Shake zula, the mic rula, the old skoola, you want a drink, I'll bring it to ya." |

Well my Inert Gas Design website is temporarely offline. I'm having power issues at my house running the Alpha machine that hosts it, and the air conditioner that is required to keep it cool at the same time. I guess the electrition that designed the wiring for the house 70 years ago, didn't take into account power requirements of an Althon, an Alpha, several monitors, a 28 inch TV, and a window airconditioner. I'm going to see about coloing the machine at work. I don't use that much bandwidth, but the machine is big, I'm not sure where I'll have space to put it. I'm hoping to have the posting ability working on this page early this week. I have to do some maintainance on my servers at work, but once that is done and my head is clear, I'll finish up the code. I'm also going to convert my news page into a CGI script, pretty much as this one is now, without the posting ability. |

This is the first real, non-test post to my new CGI based blog. It was getting hard to maintain my old flat HTML based blog. I wanted for one to make it easy for me to add new entries, and since I've been writing almost 2 months now, I want to be able to move older posts to a seperate page, or this is going to get really long. Secondly, I want to make this into more of a real blog, where people are able to interact with the page more, adding their own comments. So soon, after each post by me there will be a "Reply" link that lets you reply to my post. That's it for now, I'm talking to my friend, and I have more code to write. |

If you are looking for answers, you won't find them here. Just listening to Cop Shoot Cop. Why do all my favorite double bass bands have to break up? Them and Ned's Atomic Dustbin. Actually I heard that Ned's might be getting back together. Anyway, if you can find them, listen to Lullaby, Ambulance Song, and The Divorce by Cop Shoot Cop, but the whole album "Release" is good too. One reason you might not be able to find songs as easy today, is that AudioGalaxy lost their law suit with the RIAA today, and had to pull just about every song from their service. Now artists have to opt-in to have a song available, opposed to before where a song would be available until an artist asked to have it removed. I know that downloading a song that you don't own may be copyright violation, but truely I would buy the songs that I liked, and remove the ones that I didn't, to make room for more new stuff I may end up liking. Oh well, I don't like what they play on the radio or MTV, I don't know where I'll find new music to give a chance to now. Sealab 2021, freaking hilarious. Just thought I'd share that. I also like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, as my second favorite show on Adult Swim, I just ordered an Aqua Teen t-shirt today. Too bad they didn't have a Sealab one, I'd be all over that, or at least have it all over me. |

I watched Stargate SG-1 and Farscape on Friday. So far so good, oh so good. On SG-1 they tried to give Corin his Redemption to make him part of the team. I really don't care, just get on with the show, I want to see what happens. Farscape is making an Egypt link, maybe they will do cross over between the two shows. So much for the weekend update. I'll have to see if I can be a little more regular next week, so I can get back on track. |

Slow days. I've been upgrading the software on my work computer. I'm going to be building 2 routers soon and I want to make sure I have all the latest tools to do it with. It also puts me in a sort of zen state to have a totally fresh computer. With Windows having a fresh install means blowing it all away, and reinstalling from scratch. With Linux I can actually go through and look at each program, each file on the machine and make sure they are all later than the date I started the clean up on. So that is what I'm doing. I got the latest release of the GNU Compiler Collection, and I'm recompiling all the code on the machine with it. I think Google is about the best search engine out there. I went to see what seaching for "club neon" would get me. My site pretty high on the list, only one silly car club above me, there is a domain squatter, and that bothers me, and the number one match is an actual physical club called Club Neon. What is really strange is the site after mine, it is Japanese, and er um, adult. I wonder if they would like to buy a domain name. I've always said I wouldn't part with my domains, but maybe I could let clubneon.net go in trade for a brand new Spirit-R RX-7 (imported to the US of course, I'd put up with the right hand drive). |

I haven't updated this for a while. Vacations can get to you that way. Sometimes you just don't feel like going back to the daily routine. I will say I do feel more productive at work. I really do just need to get away from it sometimes. Lets see... Stargate SG-1 on Sci-Fi. Good stuff. Not a ground breaking episode, but it was obvious that MGM/Sci-Fi kept their promise to not cut the budget for the show. Looked just as good as it did on Showtime, and they presented it in widescreen. I knew they shot all episodes in widescreen, but they were only shown that way on Showtime's digital channel and on the DVDs. I'm glad Sci-Fi is giving us the whole picture. Speaking of the DVDs, it still won't be until later this year that we get even season two in the US. This is just silly. I understand preserving sindication, but being 4 years behind is pushing it. |

I'm back from Florida. Still collecting my thoughts. I'll probally make a large post about some of the stuff I did and saw while on vacation. Then again I may not. But I'll say for now, I had an absolutely wonderful time. I need to get back down there soon. |

Again not much to report. I've just been working on a new site. It's temporary home is cn10.clubneon.com. I'm going to make that my site for presenting my design work and documentation. |

The saddest girl to ever hold a martini. Maybe I should start coming up with little headings for each of these updates. Nah, I'll never be able to do it more than twice. But anyway, that line was great. Of course I'm speaking of Vanilla Sky. Go rent it now if you haven't seen it yet, and if you've seen it once, watch it again. It is one of those movies once you know how everything ends up, you'll get more out of it the second time around. It will be the best 4 hours of your recent life. Don't get me wrong, I hate Tom Cruise as much as the next serious movie goer, but with Magnolia and Vanilla Sky, and now this new one from Spielberg, it looks like he has been put in some good movies. Well so much for a weekend update. I'll see you in our next life when we are both cats. |

I missed updating yesterday mostly because nothing happened. Today is also kinda slow. I did get a S/MIME certificate so I'll be expecting to get encrypted e-mail from everyone how e-mails me now (send a signed message to me including your public key and I'll send you one back). I got my cert from Verisign because my domain is registered with them, but this is no way an endorsement. I actually don't like those people too much. So anyway, get your own certificate how ever you want, and start encrypting your e-mails. No one should be reading your mail but the intended reciptient. |

I subscribe to Netflix, a website that lets one rent DVDs off of the Internet. It is a kinda neat approach. You pay a flat rate per month. Depending on what you pay, you can have x number of movies out. You just build a list of movies you want. When you return a movie you get the next one. There are no late fees, you can keep a movie as long as you want or return it the day that you watch it. The return postage is prepaid, you just drop the DVD back in the mail. The quicker you return a movie the more you'll get to see in a month for your money. I like the service a lot. One thing they do is have you rate the DVDs. You are sent an e-mail when they get a movie back asking you to rate it. You can also just sit down and rate any movie they have listed that you have seen. These ratings help them recomend other movies for you to watch. So far I have found quite a few interesting movies that I would have never encounted without that service. The reason I brought this up, today I rated my 500th movie. I probally still have seen more than that, but that is of the ones listed on their site that I can remember. |

Stargate SG-1, is my favorite TV show. I do my best to never miss an episode, and when I do I watch it the next say on Showtime Beyond. Actually I only subcribed to Showtime to watch Stargate. Now that it is leaving I'll probally cancle my subscription, unless they pick up the spin off series that MGM is producing. I was a little worried when I heard that SG-1 was going to the Sci-Fi Channel, I still remember what they did to Sliders and The Outer Limits, two of my other favorite shows. But the producers at MGM said they will still have the same budget, and promise the same quality show, we'll have to see. Stargate SG-1, and Farscape back to back all summer long, how much ass does that kick? But what I really wanted to say, after I pulled myself together, and stopped crying about the loss of Danile Jackson, my favorite character, I was able to watch the first post-Daniel show. I have to say, I can't wait to see what the next season holds. The Go'uld seem to have new technology and Osirus seems to be inhabiting a non-human body, no doubt he conquered and stole their technology, but it will still be interesting to watch it unfold. Oh, and Dr. Jackson will be making guest apperences, like in episode 6 of the next season on Sci-Fi. I guess I should have put a spoiler warning back there somewhere. I'll close with saying with their new team member, they Can't Loose I got a bike, not just any bike, a Giant Iguana, I've been riding it to work (and back) most days. Boy, was I out of shape. But my body is responding quickly. Within a week I was able to pedal all the way home up the continually increasing grade. I don't think I was ever able to do that as a kid, but the most I had was a 5-speed with it's lowest gear being higher than 1:1, I'm going to have to count teeth on this new mountain bike to compute the ratios. I really do want to (scientificly) know how to shift when changing front sprockets. I also got my tickets. I'll be going to Florida for Memorial Day weekend to see my friend before she goes back to Japan, a shout to you Tiggar, if you are reading this. It should be fun, she works at a hotel, so will be working during some of the days I'll be there, but she said she has passes to an arcade. I hope they have every Yu Suzuki game, so I can play them in order. I was impressed to find that one guy was responsible for some of my favorite games through out time. Dare I risk one last note? I guess I do. I listened to Moby's 18 again while I was writing this up (no I don't type that slow, just think that slow). It is better the second time through, but I don't think I'll ever like it as much as Play, ever. Same goes for Björk's Vespertine (which I just put in), it is no Homogenic, but I only have that on an analog medium, and nothing to play it with. |

I'm sitting here trying to figure out what I was going to write about. I had plenty of things in mind over the weekend. But 2 hours of sleep heading into Monday's work seems to have erased it all. I guess since I started, I'll talk about work a little more. I got the new hardware from the different vendor. I quick test makes me think everything is going to be cool now. Two months of hell are coming to an end. I'll put it in place at my designated outage time of 2:00 AM. Maybe tomorrow will be better for updates. I'm just not with it today. |

I did get to see "Clones" last night. At 1 hour and 15 minutes to show time still no one had called me back. I said, screw it, I'm going by my self then. When I got to the mall, even before I saw him, a guy I had seen "Phantom" with (well we were in the same theater, and I talked to him in line) shouted to me, and told me to get in line with him. Easy enough, I just needed a ticket. So off to the box office to grab one. Right after I buy mine, the guys from the pet store, who I was trying to get a hold of all day, show up. I told them I already had a place in line. Anyway, I enjoyed the movie a lot. I'm not really a Star Wars fan at all, I just like films. This film was enjoyable. I'll see you in 3 years, Jason, save me a place in line. I need to rant about work for a little bit. I won't do this often, I like where I work and I like my job. I'm a self relient person, heck I roll my own Linux installs. I know how to solve problems when they are solvable. So that brings me to my problem, embeded systems. They are my bane. I have had more (unsolvable) problems with these little boxes. The biggest problem is, I know what is wrong, but I can't do anything to fix it, because I can't modify the code running on them. I used to have crashing routers and other boxes, that is mostly solved. My current problem is with the vendors of these 1U marvels. They will tell you one thing to get you to buy the box, "sure that will work fine with that other vendor's box", so I buy it. Plug it in and...it doesn't work. Call the vendor, "oh yeah, it would work, if you just disable this feature, and don't use this other one". Me, "but I bought this box, just for that feature you are telling me I can't use." Vendor, "sorry, if the other box you are trying to talk to was a..." I cut them off, "it isn't, they can't, I'll call them and find out exactly what they have, so I can buy one, and return your's. Thanks." Fun stuff. This has been going on for 2 months now. And I'm getting a little tired of it. Good thing I have a vacation at the end of this month. I'll write about that on Monday as soon as I have my tickets bought. |

A few things for today. First I've been hoping to see "Clones" all day, but no one seems to want to go with me. :( I might just end up seeing it alone, but that is no fun. Second, I got Moby's new album, 18, today. Well We Are All Made of Stars is good. Over all I'm underwhelmed. It is no Play. Even his little essay/rant thing in the liner notes comes off weak. Lastly, for some good news in music, go to KLF online and follow the directions for downloading the White Room OST, if you liked the released White Room album at all, you must hear this one. This album was going to be the sound track to the White Room motion picture. It is beyond amazing, I have no idea why they pulled Kylie Said to Jason from the released album, or Go to Sleep for that matter. I downloaded all the tracks and burnt them to CD, listen to it all the time now. The quality is amazing too 192kbps MP3s that had to have been taken from a CD or studio source. Who ever made them, thank you. |

I, Neon Spiral Injector, started this weblog, or blog, today. Not much to say yet. The news section of this site will be for updates to the site, while this page will be more of a personal diary of things happening in my life. I love SpamAssassin (even if it is written in Perl), it has made my inbox a once again bearable place. I use Mozilla's mail client (since the IMAP support has finnally become good). I can filter based on headers, like X-Spam-Flag, so people can't get their mail deleted automagicly by putting "*****SPAM*****" in their subject. I did test, SpamAssassin removes the X-Spam-Flag header on e-mails that are not spam. |
