I did get to see "Clones" last night. At 1 hour and 15 minutes to show time still no one had called me back. I said, screw it, I'm going by my self then. When I got to the mall, even before I saw him, a guy I had seen "Phantom" with (well we were in the same theater, and I talked to him in line) shouted to me, and told me to get in line with him. Easy enough, I just needed a ticket. So off to the box office to grab one. Right after I buy mine, the guys from the pet store, who I was trying to get a hold of all day, show up. I told them I already had a place in line. Anyway, I enjoyed the movie a lot. I'm not really a Star Wars fan at all, I just like films. This film was enjoyable. I'll see you in 3 years, Jason, save me a place in line. I need to rant about work for a little bit. I won't do this often, I like where I work and I like my job. I'm a self relient person, heck I roll my own Linux installs. I know how to solve problems when they are solvable. So that brings me to my problem, embeded systems. They are my bane. I have had more (unsolvable) problems with these little boxes. The biggest problem is, I know what is wrong, but I can't do anything to fix it, because I can't modify the code running on them. I used to have crashing routers and other boxes, that is mostly solved. My current problem is with the vendors of these 1U marvels. They will tell you one thing to get you to buy the box, "sure that will work fine with that other vendor's box", so I buy it. Plug it in and...it doesn't work. Call the vendor, "oh yeah, it would work, if you just disable this feature, and don't use this other one". Me, "but I bought this box, just for that feature you are telling me I can't use." Vendor, "sorry, if the other box you are trying to talk to was a..." I cut them off, "it isn't, they can't, I'll call them and find out exactly what they have, so I can buy one, and return your's. Thanks." Fun stuff. This has been going on for 2 months now. And I'm getting a little tired of it. Good thing I have a vacation at the end of this month. I'll write about that on Monday as soon as I have my tickets bought. |
